COLLAGEN INJECTIONS

COLLAGEN
For Fewer Lines & Fuller Lips

Collagen is one of the key elements that keep our skin looking young, firm and smooth. Every time you smile, squint, or frown you put stress on the underlying collagen in the skin, which results in the development of facial lines. In addition, collagen is depleted naturally as you age, leaving many yearning for the plump and youthful skin they remember. Collagen Replacement Therapy produces results that can be seen and felt instantly and leaves you with a refreshed and more youthful looking skin.

WHAT IS INVOLVED IN COLLAGEN TREATMENTS?
Treatment is usually a four-step process. First, a consultation is set up to determine if Collagen Replacement Therapy is an option to achieve the results you are looking for. Your medical history is then examined and if you use bovine collagen a skin test is performed to determine if you are sensitive to the material that will be used. If you use genically pre-enginered collagen the procedure can be performed that day.

Next, your treatment will be performed. Finally, periodic Collagen Replacement Treatments may be required to maintain your desired look. If it is your first treatment, sometimes a 1 or 2 week follow-up is suggested to ensure desired results.

HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
Collagen Replacement Therapy is temporary. A patient who has had many sessions will require less and less with each treatment and the results will last longer. First treatment results can last anywhere from 2 to 5 months with bovine collagen and longer with genically pre-engineered collagen CosmoDerm or CosmoPlast. Eventually the collagen material is absorbed into the body and metabolized. Touch-up treatments are recommended to maintain desired results.

HOW WILL I LOOK AND FEEL IMMEDIATELY AFTER TREATMENT?
Most patients resume normal activities following treatment. There will be temporary puffiness and slight redness surrounding the treated area. The redness calms down almost immediately and the puffiness lessens after a few days. The area around the mouth may feel slightly tender for a day or two. Generally within a few days, the material softens blends and gradually is incorporated into your own skin and takes a natural look and feel of healthy skin tissue. Depending on the area collagen was injected, lips look fuller, lines are filled in, and overall your face looks more youthful.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF COLLOGEN INJECTIONS?
  • Fewer: frown lines, lip lines, laugh lines, worry lines, crow's feet, deep smile lines and facial scars
  • Fuller: upper lips, lower lips and facial features

    WHAT IS COLLOGEN?
Collagen is a natural protein that supplies structure and is found throughout the body in skin, muscle, tendon and bone. Collagen fibers are woven like threads to form a framework and support structure that enhances the contours of the upper layer of skin. It provides the skin texture with resiliency and shape. Collagen in human skin is very similar to the collagen in some animals, and as a result, animal collagen has many medical applications, including sutures and heart valves. Injectable collagen is purified bovine dermal collagen, which is developed into varieties called Zyderm and Zyplast and Cosmoplast and cosmoderm which are genically pre-engineered collagen. Since 1976, more than one million people in all parts of the world have benefited from Collagen Replacement Therapy. Collagen Replacement Therapy is used to replace the collagen that our body loses naturally over time.

    WHO IS A CANDIDATE?
Injectable collagen is not intended for people who have excessive facial skin or who need major resurfacing of their skin. It can, however, be an adjunct to these procedures and fill in depressions that cannot be eliminated by facelifts or other cosmetic procedures.
